- The public company will work for one year with a European consultancy firm to fully integrate environmental criteria into its investment strategy.
Sodena, a public company of the Government of Navarre, has been selected to collaborate with Green Assist, a European initiative that offers free specialized technical assistance to integrate environmental sustainability into public investment organizations.
Over the next twelve months, Sodena will receive personalized advice from the consultancy firm Ricardo Consulting, selected and funded by CINEA (European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency), to make significant progress in its transformation into a leading public company in responsible investment, sustainability, circular economy, and environmental performance.
Since 2022, Sodena has had a Responsible Investment Policy aimed at aligning its financial flows and strategic goals with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This project will enable Sodena to continue advancing in the integration of the SDGs, specifically by strengthening its environmental and climate action strategy across all its activities and throughout the organization, through five main areas of work:
• Design of an environmental strategy that complements and updates the existing one. This plan will update how the public company integrates the environmental perspective into all its activities, from project evaluation and financial support decisions to follow-up.
• Integrate an ecological approach into daily work, through staff training and by incorporating environmental criteria into areas such as Invest in Navarra—responsible for attracting investment from outside the region—and Regional Strategy, which coordinates the design and implementation of the Smart Specialization Strategy of Navarre (S4 Navarra) and the promotion of business clusters.
• Development of green screening tools, to better assess the sustainability of supported projects and companies, evaluating the environmental impact of supported initiatives and identifying risks and opportunities.
• Leadership in circular economy and biodiversity. As the coordinating entity of the public-private initiative Navarra Zirkular, Sodena will receive support to improve its services, with special attention given to circular business models related to water resilience and natural restoration.
• Promotion of effective communication, ensuring that companies, investors, and other stakeholders are well informed about the entity’s comprehensive sustainability strategy.
This process not only updates the internal strategy of the public company, but with Green Assist’s advice, also aims to position Sodena as a reference model in financial support, investment attraction (Invest in Navarra), and activities related to S4 Navarra, all with an environmental perspective, a focus on sustainable business development, and leadership in the circular economy both within Spain and beyond.
With this alliance, Sodena strengthens its role as a driving force for a greener, more resilient, and future-ready Navarrese economy.
