Sixth Working Meeting of the Debuting project: Advancing gender equality in industry

On February 14, the sixth meeting of the Navarrese entities involved in the Debuting project was held. This European initiative aims to improve gender equality in the industrial sector as a key factor in competitiveness.

In Navarre, the presence of women in the industrial sector remains low, accounting for less than 30% of the workforce in 2024, with limited representation in management teams. This situation highlights the need to strengthen policies and promote actions that encourage greater inclusion of women in industrial companies.

The meeting included representatives from the Directorate General for Social Economy and Labor, the Navarre Institute for Equality (INAI/NABI), the Navarre Employment Service–Nafar Lansare, the Directorate General for Education and Vocational Training, Amedna-Neeze (Association of Women Entrepreneurs and Executives of Navarre), AEDIPE (Spanish Association for People Management and Development in Navarre), CEIN, and Sodena.

During the session, participants analyzed the changes needed to achieve gender balance in the industry, as well as the initiatives that influence the main work areas to reach that goal. Key focus areas highlighted included:

  • Breaking stereotypes that affect study choices and the assumption of family caregiving roles.
  • Transforming corporate culture by promoting equality in all internal company processes.
  • Encouraging STEM vocations among women, facilitating their access to traditionally male-dominated sectors.

Positive steps are already being taken in this regard, such as the increasing number of women enrolling in certain vocational training fields that have historically been male-dominated.

Debuting is an Interreg Europe project involving 12 partner entities from 11 European regions. Its goal is to facilitate the exchange of best practices and promote changes in public policy that support gender equality in industry.
